Living Divided No More
A Courage & Renewal® Retreat
Picture
In this retreat, skilled facilitators help create a quiet, focused, and disciplined space—a circle of trust—in which the noise within us and around us can subside and we can begin to hear our own inner voice. In the large group, small groups, and solitary settings, we will explore the intersection of our personal and professional lives, making use of stories from our own journeys and insights from poets, storytellers, and various wisdom traditions. Each retreat includes a Clearness Committee where you learn to listen deeply and ask insightful “open and honest” questions.

Facilitators

Facilitators Michael Prince and Anne Courtney have been prepared by the Centre for Courage & Renewal.

The Center for Courage & Renewal

The Center for Courage & Renewal is a nonprofit organisation that offers retreats, programs, events, and consulting. With a collaboration of 200 facilitators across North America and Australia, our main office is in Seattle, Washington. The Center for Courage & Renewal admits participants of any race, color, disability, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities and does not discriminate in administration of its programs, admissions policies, scholarships and financial assistance.
My knowledge of the divided life comes from personal experience: I yearn to be whole but dividedness often seems the easier choice.  A ‘still small voice’ speaks the truth about me, my work, or the world.  I hear it and yet act as if I did not.  I withhold a personal gift that might serve a good end or commit myself to a project I do not really believe in.  I keep silent on an issue I should address or actively break faith with one of my own convictions…The divided life comes in many and varied forms.
To cite just a few examples, it is the life we lead when:
  • We refuse to invest ourselves in our work, diminishing its quality and distancing ourselves from those it is meant to serve.
  • We make our living at jobs that violate our basic values, even when survival does not absolutely demand it.
  • We remain in settings or relationships that steadily kill off our spirits.
  • We harbour secrets to achieve personal gain at the expense of other people.
  • We hide our beliefs from those who disagree with us to avoid conflict, challenge and change.
  • We conceal our true identities for fear of being criticised, shunned or attacked.”
