Fathers

Traditionally, the father role has been the breadwinner and to give support to the mother. These days, many mums and dads are supporting each other and sharing the parenting role. FamilyWorks services are support the roles of both mothers and fathers.

Apart from giving birth and breastfeeding, there is nothing a father cannot offer his child as a parent, although it can be challenging when many aspects of society consider the mother the 'primary' parent. Most importantly, a father can connect or bond with his child from birth (or before) and the trust and affection this builds is the sure foundation of a valuable life-long relationship. Evidence shows that when fathers are involved in early parenting there are benefits for themselves, their family and most importantly their child.
Download a review of evidence on how fathers shape children's health and wellbeing. And here is another one from the UK which focuses on the benefits for mothers and children when dads are involved in a positive way.
Dawson is familiar with the fathering role - from his own experience, from years of research and from supporting many fathers make the transition to fatherhood.
